Eligibility Criteria
To participate in the WSCA Apprenticeship Program, you must meet the following requirements:
Must be at least 16 years of age to enroll in the apprenticeship program.
High school diploma or GED equivalent required before completion of the program.
Must be employed in a professional kitchen or culinary environment under a certified chef.
Willingness to complete required training hours and coursework over the program duration.
Application Process
Follow these steps to apply for the WSCA Apprenticeship Program:
Initial Contact
Reach out to our Apprentice Coordinator to discuss your interest and determine eligibility.
Submit Application
Complete the apprenticeship application form with your personal information, education, and employment details.
Employer Verification
Obtain verification from your employer and supervising certified chef who will mentor you.
Program Enrollment
Once approved, receive your apprentice ID and access to program resources and tracking tools.
Begin Training
Start logging hours, completing coursework, and working toward your culinary certification.
Program Commitments
As an apprentice, you'll be expected to fulfill these requirements throughout the program:
Complete a minimum of 6,000 hours of on-the-job training over 3 years (or equivalent part-time schedule).
Attend required classes, workshops, and continuing education hours as outlined in the program standards.
Pass periodic skill evaluations and demonstrate competency in required culinary techniques.
Additional Information
Program Duration
The standard apprenticeship program is designed to be completed in 3 years of full-time work (approximately 2,000 hours per year). Part-time apprenticeships are available and may take longer to complete the required 6,000 hours.
Costs and Fees
WSCA members receive reduced rates on program registration and coursework. Contact the Apprentice Coordinator for current fee schedules and available scholarships.
Certification Path
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship program, graduates are eligible to test for ACF Certified Culinarian (CC) certification and advance toward higher certifications like Certified Sous Chef (CSC) and Certified Executive Chef (CEC).
